Birdsong became an idea after seeing an installation of ancient Chinese bells. Because I create bronze birds, I decided that all the bells needed to be in the shape of birds or, in the case of the nuthatch, hummingbird and shore bird, on a pinecone, flower or shell-lined bell. Each bell has its own tone going from the tinkle of the tiny wrens, to the lower sound of the quail and the cowbell clang of the teal duck.
